G-LSUD3 PraTIS 324 Media Accessibility and Audiovisual Translation

Elective | Teaching hours: 3 | Credits: 3 | ECTS: 6

Description

The aim of this unit is to provide students with a fundamental grounding in Subtitling for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (SDH) and Audio Description (AD) for the Blind/Partially sighted as media accessibility services. Upon completion of this module students will have developed all the essential audiovisual, linguistic and technical skills that would enable them to produce SDH subtitles for a variety of film/TV genres as well as audio descriptions for different contexts (e.g., films, museums etc.). In addition, students will have acquired the basic theoretical and methodological background that would enable them to analyse audiovisual texts for SDH and AD purposes. This course will also familiarise students with the ways in which SDH and AD can be used as pedagogical tools for foreign language learning and enhancing digital literacies.

This course will be offered in the 2021-22 academic year.
