The Department of American Literature and Culture of the School of English at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), in collaboration with the AUTh Center for Education and Lifelong Learning, is organizing the summer school “Critical American Film and Video Cultures.”
Through case studies drawn from commercial and artistic cinema, experimental film and documentary, video art and video performance, medical video, as well as other contemporary post-cinematic media, a group of experienced instructors — academics, researchers, and filmmakers — will offer an alternative perspective on American film production, highlighting forms of culture that foster critical thinking and social action.
The program consists of 33 teaching hours and is delivered through the method of synchronous online distance learning. It is addressed to undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, professionals in the fields of cinema and audiovisual arts, artists, curators, and cultural sector workers. Its aim is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed for academic or professional engagement in the fields of film and media studies, culture and American culture, as well as the humanities.
