Penny (Panagiota) Koutsi holds a PhD in American Literature and Culture from the School of English, AUTh. Her dissertation "Performing Punishment: Society and the Death Penalty in Contemporary Anglophone Plays" was funded by the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) in Greece. Her teaching and research focus on American culture and theater studies with particular emphasis on the intersections of literature, law, politics and society. She has participated in numerous conferences and her work has been published in international academic journals.
