Applicants for the course in Conference Interpreting must be university graduates.
They must be able to demonstrate
excellent communication skills in their native language
and
either excellent knowledge of two of the other languages supported by the programme
or exceptional knowledge (native-speaker equivalent) of one of these and very good knowledge of a third language
together with
the ability to express themselves in public with ease and precision
a good general education and background knowledge on current affaires
a protracted (minimum 6 months) stay abroad or in a foreign-language-speaking environment
Applicants for the course in Translation must be university graduates.
They must be able to demonstrate
excellent communication skills in their native language
and
an excellent knowledge of at least two of the other languages supported by the programme
together with
the ability to express themselves in public with ease and precision
a good general education and background knowledge on current affaires.
The languages supported by the Programme are Modern Greek, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. It is possible that other languages, in particular those of the Balkan countries, may also be supported if there is sufficient interest.
Tuition. The Programme does not charge tuition fees.
Aptitude Test. After initial evaluation of their
application, candidates who meet the basic criteria will be required to sit the
entrance examination, which will take place June 15-18, 2009.
The entrance examination is in two stages. In the first stage, candidates listen
to a short speech (of about 3 minutes) on a topic of general interest in each of
the foreign languages that they have chosen and interpret the speech into Greek
as accurately and completely as possible. The second stage consists of an oral
test of the candidate’s general knowledge and familiarity with current affairs
and may be conducted in any of the candidate’s chosen languages.
Length of study. The MA course in Conference Interpreting consists of three semesters of coursework and one semester of professional apprenticeship. Please note that the programme is quite intensive and full-time attendance is mandatory.
Applications for the course in Conference Interpreting may be submitted to the School of English Secretariat, 3rd floor, Administration Building, Aristotle University, 541 24 Thessaloniki, Greece, from March 30 to May 15 2009.
Applications for the courses in Translation will be accepted in the spring of 2010 (29/3/2010 to 10/5/2010).
