The course offers a comprehensive overview of research methodology in applied linguistics. Various research methods (questionnaire, observation, interview, experiment) and types of research (qualitative-quantitative) are examined and analysed while advantages and disadvantages are discussed. During the course, all the steps involved in executing research projects are described, from planning and collecting resources to conducting the research and reporting the results. Students also develop skills in reading and evaluating published research in applied linguistics and the course includes some work on statistics. By the end of the course, students will have developed the skills necessary to design and implement research in the field of applied linguistics.
