Title: 7-315 Studies in American Culture: American Literature and the Environment (Course Description)

The class explores how literature addresses environmental issues, especially the representation of nature and wilderness. Readings are organized into five units: Visionaries of the American Environmental Movement, Interconnected Earth, Wild America: From City to Country, Human Impact, and Environmental Justice and Personal Responsibility. A final paper or project and a midterm exam comprise the majority of the grade. Because I am a visiting Fulbright scholar there is no final exam option in this class. Exceptional work in the course may be invited to submit to Echoes: For more information, you may email Kristin Jacobson,

Kristin Jacobson, Professor of American Literature, Stockton University Fulbright Scholar
